I love the Tornado, it has always been a special plane for me, a powerful machine; but since the Panthers of the 50 group moved from San Damiano to Ghedi my meetings with him have become more sparse. When I heard about the 40th anniversary of our life, I tried them all to get the invitation, but it went wrong. So I said to myself, knowing Ghedi well and therefore being perfectly aware that from outside in the morning you work everywhere constantly in a three-quarter backlight, Angelo you have to bet everything on take-offs and landings so you have a good feast of Tornadoes and take off your feel like it for a while. Having said that, last Thursday I identified the place to resume take-offs, without attracting too much attention, and I waited for my friend Claudio. The weather was partly cloudy but worse was expected. While we were waiting for take-offs, with the engines already whistling inside the base and the adrenaline circulating copiously, a thunderstorm arrived that opened the windows of the sky, but fortunately there was a large gazebo on site that welcomed us all : shower avoided for a hair! Then the miracle, the sky opened on a wonderful and clear blue that lasted the whole time of the event. And away all ten arrive and fly above us in sequence with all afterburner, great sound and emotion! But there is no time to get distracted, now it is necessary to materialize on the other side of the runway for passages and landings. Just enough time to move and we are thrown onto the lawn at the runway head of 31, after a fight with the Parma-Brescia railway which, with its closed level crossing, made me miss the Legend! Landing. And here comes the patrol with the special color on its head and a totally unexpected surprise: the formation is V-shaped and behind the Pan with the colored ones, a passage that to say unique is an understatement, unfortunately totally against the light. Pan comes off and begins her performance, which was actually very incomplete, but they weren’t the stars of the day. Once the Arrows have landed, the patrol will return and carry out three circuits in different configurations, first with everything out, then with the wing at maximum opening, and finally they arrange themselves as a “stick” in two rows for the opening of the landing. The landings are spectacular because we are very close and they are many and they never finish descending, among other things one just touched the runway has a fire in the left engine (heard on the radio as well as the fire siren heard from outside). Oh I forgot, those with the sharkmouth are the famous Panthers, the Ecr Panthers of the 50s, in short, my friends from San Damiano. Well we did it and we are fully satisfied, we have seen so many Tornadoes as I dreamed of for a long time and we have another chance on Saturday in Desenzano, but that’s another story!
